As CELL’s Technical Director from 2002 to 2010 Jan was responsible for providing the technical core of the Centre and ensuring that the infrastructure required to support the Centre’s projects is in place. She now works as an independent consultant. While at CELL Jan’s research concentrated on early modern gentry society and the development of local and family history. In 2011 she published a biography of the seventeenth-century herald and scholar Sir William Dugdale and a catalogue of his correspondence. Having ‘retired’ to Gloucestershire to devote more time to her garden and her orchids, Jan is now researching the development of commercial horticulture in the county. She is also busy giving talks on early plant hunters and other horticultural topics.
